According to Sacha Tavolieri, Chelsea are currently the frontrunner in the race to sign Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia this summer. The Blues are keen on strengthening their midfield and has identified two young midfielders as their targets. While their pursuit of Manuel Ugarte recently faced a setback, they have other players in mind.
As per Tavolieri’s information, Lavia is one of the players Chelsea have their sights on and could be considered the favourites to secure his signature. Lavia, who joined Southampton from Manchester City for £14m last summer, impressed as one of their top performers during his debut season. However, despite his efforts, Southampton was relegated from the Premier League, leading him to seek a new challenge.
Chelsea are currently leading the race to acquire Lavia’s services, but it won’t come without a hefty price tag. Southampton may demand around £50m for his transfer. It’s worth noting that Manchester City have a buy-back option for Lavia at £40m, but this clause will only become active in June 2024.
