Arsenal are reportedly in advanced talks to secure the services of Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Gunners are now leading the race to sign the Serbia international, who could command a fee somewhere in the region of £50m.
The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Biancocelesti for several years, but the midfielder has remained with the Serie A club, where he possesses a contract until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
The Premier League leaders are one of a number of European clubs that are interested in signing the Serbian with a recent report suggesting that they have made an inquiry to find out if he is an option for them.
Although Mikel Arteta’s side are believed to be at the front of the queue, it remains uncertain whether they will make an in the New Year or wait until the summer transfer window.
Arenal will face fierce competition from Juventus, Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid for Milinkovic-Savic’s signature.
