Arsenal have reportedly “explored” the possibility of signing Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion for around £25m, according to The Sun.
Arsenal head-coach Arsene Wenger, who is keen on to bring the 30-year-old centre-back, could beat the league leaders Manchester City to his signature this month.
City, who had a bid for the Northern Ireland international rejected in the summer, have now been replaced as the leading contenders for his signature by the Gunners.
The report suggests, Wenger is desperate to secure a signing that would strengthen his defensive options, and Evans is regarded as one of the greatest defenders outside the Premier League’s top six.
The report also claims that the Baggies are reluctant to allow Evans to leave the Hawthorns, but could be convinced to should a suitable offer come in for the centre-back.
