Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Liverpool’s Joe Gomez faces resistance as the Reds are reluctant to part ways with the versatile defender.
Despite Gomez’s contract expiring in June 2027, the Reds are unwilling to offload him, especially with defensive challenges looming. The recent injury to Kostas Tsimikas and setbacks to other key players have prompted Tottenham’s interest in bolstering their backline.
Spurs have already monitoring centre-back targets, now face heightened urgency with World Cup-winning defender Cristian Romero’s hamstring injury sidelining him for four to five weeks. Gomez, known for his searing recovery pace and Premier League experience, emerges as a suitable candidate for Tottenham.
However, Liverpool, aware of the defensive vulnerabilities caused by injuries, is adamant about retaining Gomez. The 26-year-old has proven his worth this season, showcasing versatility in playing across the back four, including right-back and left-back roles. With Joel Matip also sidelined, Liverpool considers Gomez’s flexibility crucial.
While Gomez contemplates a move for more prominence, Tottenham Hotspur might need to redirect their transfer focus, as Liverpool seems set to rebuff any attempts to lure Gomez away from Anfield.
