Manchester City are expected to wrap up a deal for Ethan Nwaneri from Arsenal this summer.
The 16-year-old made history last September when he became the youngest player ever to play in the English Premier League, coming in as a late substitute during Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Brentford.
He made a mark in the league, but he has not been able to make the squad for a Premier League game since. Instead, the youngster has been playing for Arsenal’s Under-18 and Under-23 teams, as well as scoring twice in five games in the FA Youth Cup, helping his team reach the final.
However, Nwaneri cannot sign a professional contract with Arsenal until he turns 17, leaving his future with the Gunners uncertain. While Chelsea have been linked to the midfielder in the past, Manchester City reportedly believes they are now in the lead to sign him this summer.
It has been reported that City have spotted an opportunity to sign Nwaneri, who has scored seven goals in 12 appearances for England’s Under-17s.
Last month, Arsenal’s Under-18s head coach Jack Wilshere praised the midfielder describing him as “exceptional.”
