Newcastle United have reportedly expressed an interest in making an audacious move for Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin despite a poor campaign.
The Spanish outlet Fichajes has reported that the Magpies aims to take the next step towards becoming a world football powerhouse. This isn’t the first time the Tyneside outfit have shown interest in the England international.
Calvert-Lewin was heavily linked with a move away from Everton last season, with Arsenal expressing interest in him before ultimately choosing to sign Gabriel Jesus instead. However, there hasn’t been much speculation about his potential departure lately, which could be due to his injury issues and underwhelming performances in the last couple of seasons.
Calvert-Lewin has been with the Toffees for seven seasons, during which he had two excellent scoring seasons in 2019/20 and 2020/21, scoring a total of 46 goals, with 29 of those coming in the English top flight.
The 25-year-old has already earned 11 senior international caps for England. Everton may view him as a diminishing asset due to their struggles, and they may look to sell him in the summer to provide Sean Dyche with significant transfer funds to rebuild the squad.
Adding more attacking options to their squad could greatly benefit Eddie Howe’s side. Acquiring a reliable striker such as Calvert-Lewin for a reasonable fee would be an excellent move for the North-East outfit.
