Arsenal have set their sights on a summer transfer for Galatasaray’s Sacha Boey, according to Turkish source Takvim.
The Gunners recently concluded a season that showed promise but ultimately fell short, as they mounted their first title challenge in years. It became evident that they need to strengthen their squad depth in order to compete with Manchester City throughout a full campaign.
Boey, 22, who came up through the ranks at Rennes, made his debut for the Ligue 1 outfit in 2019. Currently plying his trade at Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig, he continues to progress and improve his game.
Although primarily a right-back, Boey is also capable of playing on the left side. Arsenal have utilized Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu on the right flank, and acquiring Boey would allow them to shift White back to his preferred centre-back position.
Arsenal and Galatasaray have established a good relationship, demonstrated by their previous deal involving Lucas Torreira. The vice president of Galatasaray, Erden Timur, maintains direct contact with Arsenal officials, which could work in the Gunners’ favour if they pursue a summer deal for Sacha Boey.
Galatasaray initially valued Boey at €25 million, but his recent performances may have increased his market value. It is now up to the Gunners to negotiate and reach an agreement on the transfer fee.
Boey possesses significant potential and is considered a hidden gem. However, he lacks experience in the physically demanding Premier League and may require some time to adapt. If he joins Arsenal, it remains uncertain how quickly he can perform at the expected level.
